For non-performers, your attendance has already been noted so you all just need to sms me ur name(in IC) and IC no.

31st Dec 2007 marks the SL program for 1107

As the SL rep for this program i would like to thank the following groups of people:

-Miss Gillian Pang of Ling Kwang Home for the senior citizens for your unlimitedness patients in my lack of experience in this area.
-All the stuffs and facillitators of Ling Kwang Home for the senior citizens into seeing the success of the performances today.
-All the physiotherapists of Ling Kwang Home for the senior citizens for imparting certain knowledge to us that we have to take note of when taking care of the older folks.
-Performers:
1) Harmonica
a. For all your efforts in practising the songs
b. For improvising when things crop up (like forget certain instrument but still continuing the performance)
2) Singing
You guys ROCK! Ur powerful vocal cords brings up the atmosphere of the home man!
I really appreciate you guys for really put in so much time and effort in the practice.
3)Ballet
Thank you for coming down for the performance although its like our class SL and i think you all live really far from there. Thanks for ur persistent and determination to finish ur dance despite the SEVERE glitch in the sound system for you part. i really appreciate it.
4)Piano
The songs you all played really nice! Today is an eye-opener that classical musics can sound so exciting!
5)Dancers
Although OGL workshop save the practise time, but the effort is still there and i thank you for willing to perform onstage together.
-Berlinda for all the lilies that you have made!I think it took quite long to get it all done up right.
-Wee Han for your part in providing us with coordinated songs for the performance. The technical glitch was nobody's fault ya? =D
-HuiWen for all the photographs that you have taken for all of us and old folks today.
-Mr Phang, for taking your time in coming to watch our performance.

Maybe many people have this opinion that SL is all about volunteering your time to do some deeds, I was one of them to be honest. But since embarking on this program, i learn that SL emcompasses much more. From the proposal, to the liasing with the organisation, to carrying out,this program can never succeed alone and it can not occur overnight. I have learnt alot through this experience, what proposals require and how to work well with people. I think the most valuable lesson i learnt from the performance item today is UNITY. I was firstly touched by the truckloads of efforts that all the perfomers put in. Next comes the technical error in the surround system on the ballet dancers. When I need to buy time for the people to set up the songs, ALL of you came forward to help, helping me give out the tokens so that i have more time to prepare the system. Imagine if all of you were indifferent, THE PERFORMANCE WOULD PROBABLY FAILED.

We will be meeting 8.15am at AMK (the usual place) or 8.45am at Serangoon Circus. As for those who wants to go their themselves (other then thomas who has already told me), please sms me beforehand so that we know we do not have to wait for you. Also, please please please please make sure that you are not late k? This will lead to much snowballing effect on the time and may end up causing the old folks to have their teabreak late and stuffs. If you happen to be very late,please sms me that you will be then u make your way there yourself then. =D
Lastly, for all the people performing, please make sure you bring along the stuffs that you may need for you performance, like the discs, harmonica, scores and etc.
Let's all make the performance a success and let the old folks there have a wonderful day on the last day of 2007.

hihi people,

thnks for ur active participation for SL prog over the past 2 mths.
however, some due to several valid reasons were unable to make if for some of the sessions.
i have actually emailed Ms Pang to see if we are able to attend extra sessions to make it at an average of 5 visits per person.
Those who know that they do not have 5 visits yet, please try to make urselves free on 20th, 27th and the 28th (these are the dates i have suggested to her but yet to get a reply). Once she replies, i will post a confirm roster for the few of us. =D Please do not see this as a way to get even, rather, see it as fulfilling our service to the home.
There is slight change in the programme on the 31st of Dec. As Ling Kwang will be having a half -day on 31st, we will be scheduled to have our performance in the morning. We are to be there by 9am (exact time to meet i wil post here again.). I really hope everyone will be able to go this last day of our SL and enjoy the performance put up by our very own 1107CIANS~

just a reminder..our last SL prog will end on the 31st of Dec 2007 whereby we will be having a performance for the elderly at Ling Kwang Home.

Bus Services Alighting at :
1) Serangoon Garden Circus : 73, 136, 315, 317 and walk along Serangoon Garden Way till you hit a crossed-road junction where you'll see at the right St Peter's Church, Ling Kwang Home and the left SGCC
2)Ang Mo Kio Ave 3 : 25, 55, 73, 74, 132, 165, 268Note : Bus 317 is a fedder service. It goes round SG estate. You can alight near LKH and take a shorter walk.

hey 1107cians~

regarding our SL project right, Ling kwang home has replied and asks whether we will be able to start our visitation on the 5th and 7th of november which is the a monday and wednesday.
As i have mentioned, I do not need all 25 students to go down for visitation altogether. So i need you to tell me you will like to go on the 5th or the 7th ASAP~(cos i still have to confirm about whether we will be going as there are overwhelming people who applied to have their SL there).

Basically, we wil be split into 3 or 4 groups to assist the Rehab staff in the areas of interaction with the residents, pushing residents on wheelchairs, playing ballgames and conducting structured exercise for the old folks.
In summary,

Venue: Ling kwang home
Starting date for SL: 5th or 7th Novemeber.
(so the day you choose to start would most probably be the day you wil continue for the rest of ur SL.)
Time: 1-4pm
Duration: (sorry, yet to confirm, but around 2 to 3 months)

Please SMS me which day you prefer by Tues, 31st October 2007. Thnks alot.

Just a note, i hope you all won't treat SL as something you do to get the SGC (i know most of 1107cians wont) but rather, enjoy the moments you can get to spend with the residents. We will grow old one day, we will then like people to talk to us, be with us right. So I hope everyone will be commited into the SL and lets finish it as a class!

what I learn from CDP (sandcastle building)

apply more sun tan lotion when you are out in the sun for a long time..if not, you would still be barbecued
the alley area got a lot of cockroaches
friends are very impt. they help u hold the door when the toilet door is spoilt.
the drinks there cost around 20% more than those sold in school

but most importantly...(the un-crapy things)

working as a team
encouraging each other
generating ideas of how to build the sandcastle...

and LAST BUT NOT LEAST

learn how to build NICE sandcastles...

How you guys find the CDP?
I will send the password and username for the blog log in later, u all free you all type some reflections here alright..like wat you all learnt and stuffs..
keep this blog active! if not stagnant le then wont have the momentum to continue writing yea.
Okay i will start with what i feel about the CDP..
You all know right, end up our castles is totally different from what the plan, dun have all the 4 different buildings. But have our class the podium instead.
That time DE camp our castles are also different from the plan. i think the learning point for this is that we should never just keep sticking to plan larh, like at certain time, planning is just a guide for us not be lost on our way..What's important is that we must innovate during the process and stuffs and perservere on.
And i really enjoyed myself that day! Although all our faces are like cooked prawn TAT RED! but i believe in one way or another we have bonded much more i hope?

i have asked zhijun to scan the planning for tml CDP and when she sent to me, i will post it up here for u all to have some rough idea.
theme: "no AJCians left behind"
Basically, we will have this center piece which is the "bridge" of the building.
we wil be building 4 blocks, the science block,mathematics block, humanities and PE block.
so right,all of us will be building the center piece together...the AJCbridge while the different group will do the different blocks.

CDP 2007

hey hey darlings.

yea its esther again.
tml CDP is at east coast park near the east coast lagoon food village.
for those who know how to go and is not meeting us, you meet us straight at the east coast lagoon food village. When u reach le then call either me, vivian or malikka.
dress code: Aj base shirt. preferably AJ pe shirt. But if you want to get a tan, if i am not wrong the Aj singlet (old pe shirt) is allowed. Slippers and sandals are preferred.
Things to bring:
1) 1.5litre water bottle. (if you are worried that its going to be heavy, bring an empty one and fill there)
2)Towel
3)Extra clothing
4)Sunblock
The weather is going to be very hot, so pls pls do remb to bring the bottle and hydrate yourselves during the course of building the castle. We do not want to be sick during our OP do we?Also, in prevention of heat stroke or similar things from happening,i wish to encourage you guys to conduct mini water parade at home tonight.
Where to meet:
For those who do not know how to go there. PLs meet 7.20SHARP at BEDOK MRT CONTROL STATION. As we stil needa to take a bus and a short walk across underpass and stuffs, please do not be late.
Attendance will be taken for tml, and if i m not wrong ms leong will be there tml. either morning or afternoon, it wont look nice if our class has got to little people.
I will post the groupings for the sand castle building later.

hey hey darlings from 1107,

a gentle reminder that tomorrow is our event in collaboration with the smu.
pls be in school at 12.30pm as the bus will arrived at 1pm.
Lets meet at the foyer.
bring along the things that Mingjie told us to bring and have ur lunch before coming!=D
oh, i will be buying apples for the old folks tml and i will just take from the class which is for now still a +ve value.=D
wear pe shirt and any decent shorts.
Those who have any oldies that we can play during our trip on the bus please bring it along k? since i think no one is able to perform(like sing a song or something) we will at least keep them entertained with the songslarh? maybe can sing along with them.
